We are pleased to announce that the “Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Workshop”, organized by the United Centre of Emotional Health and Positive Living (UCEP) and co-organized by the Department of Psychiatry, United Christian Hospital, Hospital Authority, will be held on 1 - 3 March 2012.
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is a relatively new form of psychotherapy outgrowing from behavioral therapy. It is an empirically based psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies mixed in different ways with commitment and behavior-change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility. Numerous clinical research studies have already demonstrated the effectiveness of ACT for mental health problems such as anxiety, stress, depression, pain, cancer adjustment and substance abuse.
In this workshop by Dr. Kirk Strosahl & Dr. Patricia Robinson, attendees are going to develop an understanding of the concepts of ACT model. Attendees will also learn how to apply ACT principles to the treatment of challenging patients (suicidality, self-mutilation, help seeking-help rejecting communication, non-adherence).
The workshop is ideal for psychologists, social workers, nurses, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals including graduate and post-graduate students.
